Food Finds in the Lower Hudson Valley

From Italy, via Nyack

My favorite dish at Rossano Giannini’s Lanterna Tuscan Bistro in Nyack is the Parmesan basket salad. It comes with arugula and other lettuces inside a basket made of Parmigiano cheese, topped with proscuitto and garnished wtih goat cheese.

On the menu, it’s listed in Italian as Cestino di Parmigiano. Here’s a photo one of our photographers, Mark Vergari, shot in 2001 for a story on salads.

It’s a perfect hot weather dish. So I was happy for you — Sound Shore residents — to hear that Giannini opened a Lanterna in Larchmont last week at 147 Larchmont Ave. (Call 914-834-8700.) I mean, who wants to turn on the oven this week?

Having just come back from Lucca,Italy I can see why Chef/Owner Rossano Giannini food is so wonderful and exciting. For truly “REAL” Italian food prepared by a TRUE Italian Lanterna Tuscan Bistro is the only place to go if you are not able to jump on a plane and travel to Italy. He is having a great Wine Diner and Italian Art Show Sept 13 at 7:30 PM. Great wine, great food and meet the artist Marv Alpert. http://www.lanternausa.com

For the best REAL authentic Tuscan (from Lucca) go to Lanterna Tuscan Bistro. They now have two outstanding restaurants, one in Nyack (the original) and a new one in Larchmont! The food is superb, fresh and Italian wine selections are some of the best in the area! Also the ambiance is wonderful, elegant but quaint and informal and the Italian art work helps to set the real Tuscan atmosphere.. check it out while waiting for the parmigiana, Prosciutto salad basket…their signature appetizer.. http://www.lanternausa.com. When you want REAL Italian food this is the place to go!
