Food Finds in the Lower Hudson Valley

Swaddee in Thornwood

May
3

So I was in Thornwood the other day (actually, I was shopping at this warehouse sale my friend Mary Shustack told me about, if you must know) and was waiting at the light between Franklin and Kensico Road when I looked to my left.

Swaddee House of Thai Cuisine. I debated for a moment. Then a woman got into the car to my right, freeing up a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. I decided it was a sign.

I’d never been before. It’s cute:

I mean — anyone who takes the time to decorate drop-ceiling tiles has got to be thinking about their surroundings, right?

I’m not normally a buffet kind of girl (an incident in Chang Mai, Thailand cured me of that). But I wanted to try a few things, so I went for it.

Spring roll, satay:

A vegetable dish with eggplant and Nam Sot (kind of like larb — a limey chicken with ginger and cashews):

Pad Thai, red curry and sweet and sour shrimp:

The food was good, but it’s hard to judge from a buffet. What do you think? Have you been? If not, what’s your favorite Thai restaurant around here?

886 Franklin Ave., Thornwood, 914-769-8007.

Please tell us, what happened in Thailand. Although, maybe not why you are talking about food. My husband traveled to Thailand a lot in the 70's. In a remote village he ordered a bowl of soup. He received the soup, dug in with his spoon, and the 1st thing to pop up was a huge eyeball looking straight at him! His early dining travels has cured him of being a carnivore… He is now a vegetarian. I on the other hand still eat almost anything. Never had one of "these" experiences.

This may be the same restaurant that moved from New City. They were on main street. the food was good. but they didnt seem to get enough business.
my issue was the buffet. I rather fresh food i want. ;-]

    Liz-

We were at the Island Imports sale too early to consider lunch- but I'll keep this in mind for future travels to the area. (Including the next warehouse sale, which should be in October). Thanks.

Been several times. Food pretty good. Service atrocious—although they try; not enough help. Stopped going because of that. Too bad, we don't have enough Thai restaurants around….

I've been a few times and really enjoyed it. They used to have a second location in New City which closed recently. I agree about the spotty service, but it's not bad enough to make me stop going.

This place have been there for a long time (maybe more than 10 years) so I think the NewCity is a second location. the service is a little slow(I am a very patient person) but I am only there for the food and their food are excellent. so I think I am still going there.
