Farmers Market Loot, June 28

Just got back from the demonstration I did with Doug Nguyen of Wasabi at the Nyack Farmers Market. We made a strawberry frisee salad, but we had to use mizuna greens because — even though frisee is in season, it wasn’t at the market. Such are the ways of shopping locally. Anyway. Today’s loot:

The Baker’s Wife: 1 baguette, 1 cherry-almond bread: $9.50

Panzarella Mozzarella: 1 ball of mozzarella: $9.

Blooming Hill: 2 heads Boston Lettuce, 2 bags mizuna greens, potatoes: $19.

Dines Farm: 5 ribeye steaks: $60.

The Orchards of Concklin: 2 quarts strawberries, 2 apples: $10.70.

$108.20.

Strawberry Frisee Salad
1/2 tablespoon superfine sugar
1 tablespoon yuzu juice (or substitute any
citrus juice, such as lemon, lime or grapefruit)
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper
1/2 head frisee lettuce
4 strawberries
1/4 Granny Smith apple

Put the sugar in a bowl and add the juice.
Whisk to combine.
Continue to whisk while drizzling in the olive oil.
Whisk until the salad dressing is somewhat thick.
Wash the frisee and cut it into bite-sized pieces.
Slice the strawberries and the apple.
Place all in a bowl and toss with the dressing.
Mound the salad on a plate and garnish with
strawberries, if desired.
Yield: 2 servings.

Liz, the farmer’s market usually held in WP on Wednesdays will this week be held on Tuesday the 3rd due to the holiday (I found out by calling the mayor’s office).
