Live from the Fancy Food Show

Perhaps I should have been clearer in my other post. I’m down at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan at the annual Fancy Food Show, where there are 2,150 exhibitors showing 100,000 specialty food products from around the world. I’ve managed to find the local ones (with quite a bit of help from food writer Deven Black, who did me the kind favor of scoping everything out yesterday). One lead that Deven gave me was Neil Fusco of Piermont, who owns Cucina Antica, the pasta sauce company based in Briarcliff Manor. That’s him above handing me a taste of his new pizza sauce.
Here he is handing out a sample of his tomato-basil sauce to someone. He’s also making whole wheat pasta, and another tomato sauce with arugula.
Neil used to own the Amalfi restaurant in Briarcliff Manor, but he sold it after 15 years because he wanted to concentrate on the sauce. In the last six months, he’s been to Colorado, Boston and Dallas trying to promote it. It’s already being sold in Whole Foods.
While I was at Neils’ booth, I also ran in to Harold and June Hochberger, who own the Mrs. Green’s organic stores:
Neil’s sister, Antoinette Macera, said Mrs. Green’s is like their “mother store,” because they were among the first to agree to carry the sauce. Nice how local people are helping other local people out!
