Food Finds in the Lower Hudson Valley

Live from the Food Show, Part III

July

Apparently I’ve been using too many photos on my blog. The software won’t let me upload any images, even though I went in and deleted some old ones.

That’s really too bad. Because Kevin Dundon, the Irish chef collaborating with Tommy Moloney’s — an import company where Bill Colbert of Orangeburg is CEO — has a great big smile in the photo I took of him.

As well he should.

The team just launched Glenbrody Gourmet Sausages, and, the Leek-Pepper variety is simply delicious. Another shout out to Deven Black, JN food freelancer, for pointing me in the right direction. I always listen to Deven.

I had a chat with Colbert, and he told me he started the company in 2005 because as an importer of Irish goods, he was tired of the Irish food in the US not being as good as it is across the pond.

“I’d get off the plane in Shannon and say, ‘Can someone make me a decent breakfast?’”

He started developing the recipes for his products in a supermarket in Woodside called Tommy Maloney’s. Nowadays, they carry Irish Breakfast Bacon, Smoked Back Bacon, Corned Beef, Sausage, Whiskey Sausage, Cured Pork Loin, Pudding, Boneless Irish Hams and Premium Smoked Irish Salmon.

The other flavors of the new Glenbrody sausage line are Sun-Blushed Tomato Pork, Irish Stout and Caramelized Onion Pork, Apricot and Almond Chicken and Irish Whiskey and Apple Pork.

They’re delicious. I wish you could see them!
