Also, as a beer lover, I’d like to see more on the restaurant’s beer selections, both here and in the paper. It’d be nice to know if a place has more than the usual Bud/Miller/Coors offerings, and if they make an effort to carry a variety that enables better food pairings.

I kinda of knew that you would see my post, I posted it about a dozen times in the hopes you would catch it and it was deleted each time! I was surprised and happy when you posted my comments on your blog, the happy part is due to all the replies this thread is receiving. Liz, you have a loyal following and the potential for this blog is enormous, just listen to your fans (the bloggers) and soon your site will make people say “chowhound who?”

I really only enjoy high end restaurants when they’re good. In fact there’s nothing I hate more than paying a lot of money for crappy food or bad service.

I go to the Olde Village Inne in Nyack at least once a week. Usually I order the chicken Caesar, but sometimes I get wings or a burger. I’m also a big fan of the Lazy Boy Saloon in White Plains. Believe it or not, the thin-crust pizza there is really, really good.

One of my favorite restaurants in Rockland is Video Guadalajara in Spring Valley. It’s a bodega in front and a restaurant in back. You get your soda from the cooler and go to the formica table. I like to order the soft tacos. My meal costs less than $10.

And I’ve covered a lot of restaurants on the blog that people don’t consider elite. Like the burger story. Like the Thai places.

If I’m evaluating a restaurant, I take into consideration what the restaurant is trying to be. Certainly the goal of Rodrigo Godinez (the owner of Video Guadalajara) is not to have the best wine list in Rockland. It’s to have the best tacos and to provide a place where those of us who love to cook Mexican food can find the ingredients that we need.

RK, I remember that. Even though I’m sorry you had a bad experience, I was happy to see the interaction.

Perhaps the blog could become a little more “edgy” or critical.

One thing I find very frustrating is going out to a “fine restaurant” – having a terrible experience – then “paying the price”.

A while back I had an awful experience at a “fine” Scarsdale Restaurant – wrote about it on this blog – and got a response by the owner/chef (he wasn’t too happy – but then again – neither was my wife and I).

Perhaps that’s what’s needed here.

You have to try the new Italian restaurant on Church Street in White Plains. La Bocca. It is the same owner as Spiritoso’s in Yonkers but a different dining concept. Small in size but the food is excellent. They only opened a couple of weeks ago but feedback is positive. Friendly and good prices.

Also Trotters on Main Street reopened as a tapas bar and restaurant. Same owners but you won’t recognize the place.

I don’t care much for the videos either, not something I’d consider safe for viewing at the office. I’d like to see less high-end reviews also. It would be great if you had a program or something where your readers could tag along on one of your dining out experiences (and I’d be at the head of the line for that). Do readers write you with questions? That might be of more general interest as well.

And while I’m on a rant, I would love to see the return of some sort of rating system in the restaurant reviews. Take a stand!
