Food Finds in the Lower Hudson Valley

Kosher Wine Tasting

May
13

From a press release:

“Attendees at the Community Wine Tasting, Tuesday, May 13th from 7:30 – 9:00 PM, sponsored by Young Israel of New Rochelle (www.yinr.org), will learn more about the new vintages in Kosher wines while expanding their circle of friends within the Jewish community,” said Evan Jerome, the event planner.

Sponsored by Young Israel of New Rochelle at its new shul, located at 1228 North Ave., next door to Wykagyl Country Club, the Community Wine Tasting will feature Aaron Ritter, founder and owner of the Kosher Wine Society (www.kosherwinesociety.com).  “Our hands-on Wine 101 workshop gives participants a chance to experience the best kosher wines from around the world. At Young Israel of New Rochelle, we will be showcasing vintages new to the market.”  Appetizers and dessert will also be served.

Kosher wine has come a long way from when the choice was pretty much limited to Manischewitz’ sweet Concord Grape, Cherry or Blackberry labels.
Bottled in top producing vineyards in California, New Zealand, Italy, France, Argentina, and South Africa, nowadays kosher wine comes in varieties with names like Cabernet Sauvigon Pays Oc, Chateau Cheval brun St Emillion Grand Cru, and Chardonnay Pays Oc.

The event will also include a brief presentation by Young Israel’s Rabbi Reuven Fink on the “Role of Wine in Jewish Tradition.” The cost per person is $20 at the door and reservations can be made by contacting Evan Jerome at avrahamjerome@yahoo.com or 917 974 6604.
