Half Moon, the waterfront restaurant in Dobbs Ferry is open. Here’s the sneak peak I posted a few weeks ago.

Also, Via Quadronno in White Plains is also open. Here’s that sneak peak from last week.

    we went to the red hat in irvington last night and it was beyond wonderful. only problem was that it was too cold to sit outside. had a great white vertliner, the staff was competent and friendly, and i think between the four of us we sampled everything they had and it was all good. i am so happy to have found them. it was quite a contrast to our experience at bakal’s last week wherein they had a 20% built in tip for a table of six and my four year old grandson put us in that number and we got a sullen waitress who couldn’t be bothered. at their prices you could at least get a smile especially since the food isn’t that great. (altho my husband did like his gnocchi). will get back to the red hat as soon as i can. will not bother with the other – ever.

    ‘Half Moon is Half Baked’

    Last night was opening night, and while the view, renovation, and hospitality were excellent, the kitchen needs some work.

    Our waiter John, who formally was a bartender @ Iron Horse Grill was a pleasure.

    Here is a review of what we ordered:
    Unfortunately the lobster rolls were too salty and there were no discernable pieces of lobster. It seemed as if they reduced the ingredients to a paste. You could however taste the flavor of lobster.

    The burger was high quality and tasty but also a bit too much salt. Someone in the kitchen has a heavy hand when it comes to sodium.

    The scallop cerviche was very good with hints of citrus and served with some homemade pita-type chips for scooping.

    The duck tacos were fabulous! As an appetizer there were 3 served in a little rack. the shells were light and delicate, filled with shredded duck and a hint of guacamole. We had to order 2 servings because they were so scrumptious.

    Lamb ribs were good for what they are, but this is a heavy greasy dish that lends itself to more of an appetizer portion then a medium size bowl.

    Desserts were rather pedestrian but well executed for what they are. Root Beer float, biscuit of strawberry shortcake, sorbets and ice cream were fine.

    The owners and staff bent over backwards to please and given their other great restaurants I am sure they will work out the few kinks in the kitchen.

    We would go back again for the appetizers and drinks right now.

    We definatly will be back and I am sure they will work the kinks out

    I escorted a friend last week to Half Moon for a special preview for fellow restaurateurs. Yes, there are a few kinks that need to be worked out, but that can be said for any new restaurant. We enjoyed our meal, with my friend especially loving his seafood bruschetta… the serving was HUGE.
