New Photos from Half Moon in Dobbs Ferry

I’ve been to Half Moon twice now, and loved it both times. Here are some photos of the fabulous view as well as a couple of the dishes and a refreshing rosé.

I’m not going to give you an official review, mostly because I can’t sneak in to the restaurant for one second before chef Vincent Barcelona and operations director Rich Hollocou suss me out. But I will tell you this: A lot of people are asking how Half Moon compares to Harvest on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson. Harvest is fancier. Half Moon has some fancy food (wait till you see our JN photos of the seafood boat and the tiered clam bake), but it’s served in such a laid-back way that you almost don’t notice. I mean — there are fried Ipswich clams served on paper for goodness sakes!

Watch this space real soon for a review by Judith Hausman, who has been able to sneak in unnoticed. I’m planning on trying a little something new. I’ll post her review here in hopes that you all will weigh in, then I’ll select a sampling to print in the paper along with her review. Small Bites readers will get a sneak peek — and get to weigh in along with the critic in print.

But I digress — here’s a look at an evening on the patio at Half Moon. First things first. You can’t take your eyes off this view of Manhattan:

I had to special-request this rosé… at the tiki bar they only serve red and white. But I recommend you request it, too:

Who doesn’t love a glass of rosé by the river in summer?

(Except maybe that guy.)

Croquettes:

Good. Crispy and tasty.

And a tasting of ceviches:

All of them delicious. Especially the shrimp.

This is my second visit to Half Moon. The first time I was there on assignment (watch for a cool video soon) and then stayed for supper. My friends and I tried most of the bar menu — which you can see in my preview post here — and then had entrees like lobster rolls and the lamb chops for supper. Everyone was happy.
