Food Finds in the Lower Hudson Valley

One More Option for Waterfront Dining in Westchester: The Boat House in Ossining

December
4

Now I can’t vouch for the food, not having been. But I gotta say, the Boat House — which opened a few weeks ago on the waterfront in Ossining — is just the kind of spot I hope we’ll see more of on our waterfront: casual and easy-going, but not only about fried shrimp and bad margaritas.

The Boat House has purple walls, a cement floor stained green-brown and a hand-painted mermaid on the door to the ladies room. In the bar, there’s a leanining bar made of pieced-together swim platforms off the back of boats. There are tablecloths in the dining room, but they’re covered with glass.

Owners Val and Lori Polidoro — who also own Fabulous Foods catering, which does the parties at Lyndhurst — and owner Scott London hired chef Roy Shepherd to do the menu: salads, cheeseburgers, sea bass, chicken, pastas — you get the picture.

So far the crowd has been locals from Ossining, Croton and Briarcliff, says manager Diane Barry. But you know what they say… location, location, location. It may be winter, but it’s still waterfront.

This sounds great. I have a boat on the hudson in Rockland. It will be nice to have another “dock and dine” restaurant to try…
