Delicious (Gourmet) Soft Tacos at Mimi’s Plate in Tappan

June
2

I did ye-olde grab-and-go for lunch the other day, and was very impressed with my meal. It was my first time at Mimi’s Plate in Tappan, but it won’t be my last.

These soft tacos were delishy. More after the jump.

Mimi’s is in the space that used to be the Baker’s Wife years ago.

It’s owned by Mimi Platas (which means plate in Spanish). She worked for 20 years as a chef and caterer in the Hamptons. She subscribes to the organic and local school.

That’s my brown bag on the counter. I was taking lunch to a friend, and decided we’d share a few things. I chose a sandwich from the menu: Grilled herb rubbed chicken cutlet with roasted tomato, roasted artichokes, herb mayo and arugula (very tasty), a pre-made salad (which I liked, but I’m not a huge fan of sprouts, so I wish they hadn’t been included) and the soft tacos (terrific).

I also took a bag of chocolate chip cookies (amazing) and a Balthazar baguette. I was tempted by the spreads:

And the premade sammys, too:

Here’s the other refrigerated display case, with more substantial entrees and such:

The lamb burgers looked great. There are also servings of meatlaof, little quiches, asparagus and chicken. The lunch menu has panini, breakfast sandwiches (eggs and spinach; peanut butter and banana); and salads and sandwiches.

It’s really not a place to go when you’re starving. You want to order everything.

Not that that’s a bad thing.

Tappan is such a beautiful and quaint town with restaurant row.We recently discovered another great food spot of Morgan’s Publick House just up the street fron Mimi’s.Pub food?It was over the top bistro styled grande food!
Anyway ,Tappan is a great discovery for great food.

These tacos look amazing! I have never been to Tappan, but it sounds like it may be worth the trip. I haven’t really found a good taco place yet in my neck of the woods (Kingston area), except Brio’s in Phoenicia makes really good breakfast tacos. I guess a trip to Mimi’s is in my future!
