Back by popular demand, our friend and “Wine Gem” David Calkins will team up with Chef Karp to put forward the Wine and Food from Spain. A four course dinner paired with 5 wines promises to be muy delicioso. Plenty of time for Q&A with the experts on the differences between Rioja, Cava and Sherry. The evening begins at the bar with sparkling at 7 pm and is $75 including all 5 wines with tax and gratuity additional. Please call to reserve.

Cruise to Alaska with PLATES – Cooking classes with Chef Karp – August 23 – 30

Set Sail To Alaska – Culinary Lessons on the High Seas – August 23 – 30, 2009

Chef Matthew Karp has once again been selected as the Celebrity Chef on board the Holland America Cruise Line MS Veendam for a 8 day/ 7 night cruise to Alaska. Chef Karp will be giving cooking lessons on-board in the ships “Studio Teaching Kitchen”, deriving culinary inspiration from ports of call in Ketchikan, Glacier Bay, College Fjord, Juneau and Skagway. A once in a lifetime adventure in this, the 50th anniversary year of Alaska’s Statehood and the 5th anniversary of PLATES! This appointment by Holland America again places Chef Karp in the company of some of the finest Chefs in America. Friends of PLATES will be entitled to preferred rates and on-board extras! For more information click here for an on-line brochure of the voyage, or call Pisa Brothers Travel at (212) 265-8420 ext. 251 for Andrew Shmerler.

PLATES at the Larchmont Farmer’s Market – Fresh Fish, Bread, BBQ, and more – Saturdays 8:30 – 2 pm

Make Saturday at the Farmer’s Market a habit, and sample PLATES fresh baked bread, fresh catch fish, pulled pork sandwiches, ribs and other goodies under our tent. Chef Karp rolls with his wood fired Louisiana Smoker up to the market each week and is happy to demonstrate just how smokers work. Try the variety of sauces for the BBQ – classic St. Louis, Jalapeno, or “raise the roof” hot. Also available, quarts of the pulled pork for $20. For assembling at home or serving with rice and market veggies (for example!).

The Larchmont Farmer’s Market now has 17 vendors selling a variety of local and regional farm-grown produce, artisanal cheese, organic produce, quiches, wines & ciders, herbs, flowers, and specialty items such as chutneys, sauces, and soaps. The market runs every Saturday – rain or shine – through December on the Metro North upper parking lot at Chatsworth Avenue (for parking, go up the ramp by PLATES front door).

5th Anniversary Prix Fixe – Sunday – Thursday – $30 all evening

Yes, we turn 5 this year, and rumor has it we are about to win something big from Westchester Magazine (again, sigh). Come celebrate with us any Sunday – Thursday for the rest of 2009, and we’ll give you the gift. Any two courses from the entire menu for $30. It’s our way of saying thank you for the support and enthusiasm for the PLATES concept. More details to come….

(Your) Wine Wednesdays !

No corkage fee for bringing your own wine on Wednesday evenings. An opportunity for collectors (or anyone, really!) to uncork that special bottle in a great room with a superb meal. PLATES will decant, handle, pour and accommodate the needs of the vintage!

PLATES REBATES!

Your reward for reading to the end!

PLATES was featured last week on VH1’s reality series, “Gotti’s Way”, a show that follows the life of Irv Gotti, CEO of Hip Hop label Murder Inc, (The, Inc., Ashanti, Ja Rule, etc.) and his wife Debbie, our neighbors in New Rochelle. They spoke effusively about PLATES, their favorite restaurant, and filmed the episode in our dining room. Our PLATES Rebates is in honor of Gotti’s Way – click here and get some.

Hope to see you soon at one of our summer events – we’ll keep ya’ busy!
