Food Finds in the Lower Hudson Valley

Local Links: This Week’s Food News Here

July
13

Hi everyone — I’m on vacation this week, so I won’t be posting. But I don’t want to fall behind — so I was wondering… could you all help me gather the week’s local food news?

Just post a link below in the comments field, and give us a short description of what the story’s about.

It’s OK if it’s your own blog… feel free to share the link. Or, if you’ve come across something interesting, please share it below. You’ll not only be helping me, but your fellow readers, too.

So…. who did the New York Times review this week?

I went to Favor’s Jamaican restaurant in New City. Close and not too shabby. For me, some of the dishes, were a wee bit salty. But I am happy to find a place to get curry goat and stew peas! Like most West Indian food its more for takeout which is fine by me.

No NYT Westchester dining review this week. A survey of local Indian grocers instead:

La Panetiere in Rye is holding an Evening of Cabaret which will feature pianist and vocalist Johnny Morris for four Wednesday evenings – July 22, July 29, August 5 and August 12 at 7pm. Morris has worked with Buddy Rich and Maxime Sullivan and has performed at the Carlyle, the Plaza Hotel and the Rainbow Room.

There are a few menu options – a la carte menu, hors d’oeuvres menu ($12 per person), an assortment of petit fours ($12 per person) or just a simple glass of wine or cocktail. La Panetière is located at 530 Milton Road in Rye, New York; 914-967-8140.

Stopped into the new Haiku in White Plains on Wednesday night, after the Westchester Magazine “Best of Westchester” event with Ralph Martinelli (Publisher of West Mag) and Peter Kelly (Yes, that PK) with a couple of friends. Everybody LOVED it! Excellent food, drinks and great vibe. Stopped in today in the daylight hours and loved it again. Definitely worth checking out and going to give the rest of Mamaroneck Ave a run for it’s money.

Thanks all! I’d love to hear more about the Best of Westchester party!
