Food Finds in the Lower Hudson Valley

Local Links: Special Chowhound Edition

July

I imagine by now you guys are starving for information? So sorry I left you hanging….but sometimes I need a break too! So before I get into a couple fun photos of my own escapades, I’ll do at least a quick rundown of what’s going on over at Chowhound.

But… I was wondering, folks? I thought y’all’d help out a little more ? Thanks to the few posters — Karen Croke included — who pitched in while I was gone… but I gotta say… I thought you guys would post a little more while I was gone?? How come no? [Edit: My apologies… two of the comments were in spam, maybe because they had links to them. Maybe that was the problem. Anyway… thanks to those who posted!]

Meantime, to start out, here’s what Chowounders were talking about while I was away:

Best pizza in Westchester?
Tango Grill closed? (I’ll try folks…. but I”m just getting back and super busy!)
Whom do you prefer for tapas in Westchester: Espana, Milonga or Peniche?
Everyone is loving Melt Sandwich
(me included!)
Kenny Brieman f@X20 is now at The Terrace Club in Mahopac.
The Cookery was “the best meal I ate in Westchester in 20 years.”
New bistro in Mount Kisco?
A complete rip-off on my earlier post on Pepe’s. (My earlier post here.)
The first word on Haiku in White Plains.
Where do people go to dinner in Port Chester?
Some very specific requests: -My two in-laws two kids who are 2 and 7 yo, generally well behaved
-My Mother-in-Law, can be particular and service needs to be good and attentive
-Some place without a ton of background noise as a 100 yo grandmother will be there and she’s a little hard of hearing. Here’s what the Hounds have to say.
Judy Hausman is looking for butchers in Westchester…. Here’s our guide.
Judy’s also looking for goat in Westchester.
The brand-new Rosie’s on the River in Port Chester?
Adam has another comment on the sad passing of MED owner Marcelo Azar.
Looking for a great prime rib in Westchester?
Judy is looking for great takeout meals in Westchester.
Augie’s Prime Cut: New steakhouse in Mohegan Lake?

That’s all I was able to comb from the 10 days while I was gone… did you guys find anything else?

We missed you while you were gone, Liz. And sorry I didn’t contribute any news while you were out…. I usually check your site at work (shhhhh…) and forgot to come back and post when I got home.

    Liz;
Well back and thanks for the listing. Could you have some check coding on butchers’ link. I am unable to read anything beyond first page.

Liz & all…I just got off the phone with Hector Avila, chef/owner of Tango Grill in White Plains. HE IS NOT CLOSING! He is, however, in Chapter 11 reorganization. Please…the heresay on Chowhound has been amazing! Did anyone truly interested just pick up the phone? Tango Grill remains a great restaurant. These rumors hurt Tango even further…Get the facts straight, guys!

Hi Morris, as I said in the above post, I was planning to try to get to reporting on this today. Thanks for setting the record straight. I’ll call Hector later.

Hi Jon. Thanks for the welcome. I fixed the link and added the butcher story to the blog from our archives.
