Jury Duty Lunch No 3: Drop By Gourmet in New City

I dropped by Drop By Gourmet during my time on jury duty in New City this month. It was busy, busy, busy. I ordered the egg salad and dill with Spanish olives, pimento and watercress on marble rye bread. The sandwich was a revelation. The bread was soft and fresh. The pimento were sweet but had a tang and the olives brought it all home.
The menu that’s above the counter for ordering only lists some of the choices. Get a paper menu if you want to see all of them. (Including my egg salad sandwich.)
There are plenty of salads for takeout, too. They do a brisk catering business.
As you saw from the photo, I took my sandwich outside. This is a problem during the construction for the revitalization of downtown.
After I’d had a few bites of lunch, Angie Sanchez, the owner, came outside bearing gifts. She recognized me and wanted me to try these two salads. An apple slaw and a chick pea:
Both were lovely. The food is really quite good.
I highly recommend Drop by Gourmet if you’re going to eat lunch in the park, or, if you work in the area and are heading back to the office. For jury duty, however, it’s not a great option if the weather’s bad or you don’t have anywhere else to go. If it’s too cold to sit outside, there aren’t any other tables.
Jury duty pros:
Great food.
Quick service.
Convenient.
Jury duty cons:
Unless the weather’s nice, there’s no place to go to relax or to work.
Jury duty rating:
Two our of four gavels.

Hi Liz, I saw your entry in the journal news on Wed, 10/21/09 re: your apple tart recipe. It looks very delicious and I would like to make it. Where can I find the full recipe with measurements of ingredients? Also, what size pan and do you grease it. How do you get that rolled edge of the crust and at what temp does it bake.
I’m a senior citizen and am new to this form of communication. I’m not really sure if I get an answer. I hope I do and that you can e-mail them to me. Thank you. MK
I love the egg salad sandwich too! The menu is great and there are tons of great sandwiches but I can’t get away from my egg salad. To die for. The zucchini bread is also a great – healthy snack. Yes, she needs more seating but you can take it with you!!! Great place to pick up dinner too.
