Nina Marie’s Italian Restaurant, which took over the spot that was once the famed Franzl’s, a former (and very popular) German restaurant from yesteryear, recently got its liquor license. The bar area, painted a dark maroon and black, includes a comfortable mahonay bar and space for live entertainment. Thee wine list has choices from Italy, Argentina, France, New Zealand and California.
Owners Kimberly and Anthony Ciccone remodeled the restaurant, tearning out the old barn siding and replacing it with gold-colored Ventian plaster, houseplants and custom tile work. They named the restaurant after their new baby daughter, and are serving their nonnas’ recipes, including the signature dish, auteed sausage and beef, pureed beans, onions, escarole, and fire roasted tomatoes mixed with pipette pasta.
