Liz Johnson
When she was young, Liz Johnson hated lima beans, onions and liver. Despite growing up in Texas, spicy food took some getting used to, too. Time abroad in France taught her to love stinky cheese, and traveling through Asia and living in Mexico showed her the error of her non-spicy ways.
Liz graduated from Clarkstown South High School and got her English degree at SUNY Oswego, where she mostly subsisted on pizza and beer.
Since then, her culinary palate improved. (In fact there's nothing she won't taste at least once.) Since she began writing about food for The Journal News in 2000, she's covered restaurants, cooking trends and cocktails — winning two best feature-writing awards for the Association of Food Journalists along the way.
She's now the food editor of The Journal News and LoHud.com, a television food correspondent for "The Hudson Valley's NewsCenter Now," on RNN, the Regional News Network, the editor of the annual Wine & Food magazine, a James Beard Foundation restaurant awards judge and a contributor to the food pages of national and regional magazines.
She lives in Nyack with her husband on a tiny suburban lot they call their farm — with fruit trees, an herb garden, and a yardful of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, shallots, cucumbers, zucchini, radishes, cabbage, peppers, Brussels sprouts and carrots and four big blueberry bushes.

The guys at Lesser Evil certainly have a sense of humor.
They're playing off the election to drum up name recognition for their popcorn company, which is based in Bronxville.
The other day they put lawn signs saying "Vote for Lesser Evil" up and down Central Ave., and apparently got a letter from the city of Yonkers [...]

Italica, a company based in Scarsdale, had a couple of new products at the show, including an olive oil enhanced with vitamins A, B, D and E and another with Omega-3:
The olives come from Spain. Italica is a city outside Seville, so that makes sense.

These little grab-and-go puddings are cute and taste pretty good too. For the sweet tooth, definitely.

When you're walking around a trade show, it's normally to look for what's new and fresh. So it was kind of funny when I stopped by the booth of Casa di Lisio of Mount Kisco.
What's new? I asked.
Absolutely nothing, answered Lou Di Lisio. We've been comin' to the show for 29 years.
Ok well kudos then! [...]

I headed over to the Iceland Spring booth to see about some water being produced out of Orangeburg.
Too bad these guys moved to Florida!
Jack Maguire, left, and Dirk Prell, say the company used to be based out of Orangeburg but now they're in West Palm Beach. I mean, do you blame them?

Initial thoughts: lots of gluten-free stuff and lots of "bites," as in smaller portions. (I applaud!) Also the usual teas and vinegars. Here's a beautiful pot from Tea Forte.
